For the 2008 Hydro Connect Festival at Inverary Castle, DF Concerts invited entries for a competition to design a dressing room for the stars. I was one of the few selected and dressed a room for Franz Ferdinand, Gomez and Mercury Rev. The timescale for this project was very tight and within only a few days I sourced materials, created pieces and installed them in the artists’ dressing room at Connect. In keeping with the ethos of festival partner Scottish Hydro Electric, the brief demanded I use recycled or renewable materials. The limitations and restrictions of the venue presented a challenge. I created a fun and quirky atmosphere using functional objects that worked well. The mannequin wears a cocktail dress made from old newspapers and a charity shop lampshade. The tea setting also came from charity shops and the cushions are made from old clothes stuffed with used plastic bags. |
